August 2026 opened on a weekend, so the SASSA payment window rolled into the first full working week. In an official media release on Sunday 3 August, SASSA confirmed the schedule: Older Persons on Tuesday 4 August, Disability on Wednesday 5 August, Children's grants on Thursday 6 August, and, for the first time this year, a formal fourth payment day on Friday 7 August for beneficiaries flagged for review. The SRD R370 batch window still runs across the last week of the month.

Permanent Grants: 4, 5 and 6 August, Plus a Review Day on the 7th
SASSA published the August 2026 payment calendar in an official media release on Sunday 3 August. Because 1 and 2 August fell on a Saturday and Sunday and the first working Monday (3 August) is used as a system-prep and system-refresh day, the standard three-day rolling window opened on Tuesday. Older Persons landed on Tuesday 4 August, Disability on Wednesday 5 August, Children's and remaining grants on Thursday 6 August. If your payment arrived in that window, no action is needed for August.

If your grant lands in a bank account, the money usually clears within the first few hours of the payment day. SASSA cash-pay points and selected Postbank branches open earlier than usual on these dates. Postbank ATMs typically release funds from 06:00 on the date listed above. If you use a retailer collection channel (Pick n Pay, Boxer, Shoprite, Checkers), the till lookup goes live on your payment day and stays open for 30 days.
Fourth Payment Day: Friday 7 August
New for August: SASSA has explicitly added Friday 7 August as a fourth payment day for beneficiaries flagged for review. If your grant does not land on your usual date and only pays out on 7 August, SASSA has confirmed it means your file has been selected for review. You are asked to visit your nearest SASSA office before 18 September 2026 with proof of income, marital status and any other supporting documents so the review can be finalised without a September interruption.
Why August's Dates Shifted
The first three working days of the month set the pattern for permanent grants. When the calendar month starts on a weekend and Monday is a prep day, the window rolls to Tuesday. That is why September 2026 will run Wednesday 2, Thursday 3, Friday 4, and October 2026 will run Friday 2, Monday 5, Tuesday 6 (weekend break in the middle).
Women's Day: What Closes on Monday 10 August
Women's Day falls on Sunday 9 August 2026, which under the Public Holidays Act is automatically observed on the following Monday. Banks, the Post Office, and SASSA branches close for that Monday. Cash-pay points do not operate. Postbank ATMs stay online, but Postbank branches themselves are shut.
None of that affects a SASSA payment date because Women's Day sits outside every 2026 payment window. The impact is only on collection convenience: if you plan to withdraw at a branch counter or update your banking details in person, do not head there on 10 August, and expect longer queues on Tuesday 11 August when everyone else has waited out the holiday.
Retail Store Collection Still Runs
Pick n Pay, Boxer, Shoprite and Checkers stores that host the SASSA collection till stay open on Women's Day at normal weekend hours. If your money has already landed and you need cash on 10 August, retail is your working channel while banks and Post Office are shut.
SRD R370: 24 to 31 August
The SRD R370 grant continues its batch cycle over the last week of the month. For August 2026 the window opens on Monday 24 August and closes on Monday 31 August. As always, batch order is randomised and there is no way to request a specific batch date.
By 6 August, most July-approved recipients have already seen their status reset to Pending as SASSA re-runs the monthly means test against fresh bank inflow data. This is normal and does not signal a decline. If your status check still shows Pending on 15 August, the file is sitting behind a live SARS or Home Affairs data pull. Give the automated cycle until 20 August before contacting the call centre.
The R628 means test remains the single largest cause of an unexpected Decline in August. Any bank credit above R628 in the calendar month, including a family transfer or a once-off refund, disqualifies the file for that month. The full mechanics are covered on the eligibility and means test guide.
Approved but No Money Yet?

Postbank Gold Card Countdown: 8 Weeks to Enforcement
The single most consequential deadline in August is not on the payment calendar. It is the Postbank Gold Card final swap. Roughly 240,000 SASSA beneficiaries still hold the yellow Gold Card as of the end of July, most of them clustered in the Eastern Cape, KwaZulu-Natal and Limpopo. Postbank confirmed in a media release on 29 July 2026 that the enforcement calendar remains as previously communicated:

You have exactly eight weeks between 6 August and 1 October to walk into a Postbank branch and swap for the new Black Card. The swap is free, takes about 10 minutes with a green barcoded ID or Smart ID, and does not require you to update your SASSA file. Your grant continues on the new card automatically.
Ignore Any "Swap Fee" SMS or Call
Fraud reports around the swap have spiked in the last two weeks. Postbank does not charge a fee for the Gold-to-Black swap and will never phone or SMS you asking for card numbers, PINs or OTPs. Livelihoods Grant Transition Still on Track for March 2027
National Treasury confirmed in the mid-year budget briefing on 28 July 2026 that the SRD R370 will formally transition into the new Livelihoods Grant from 1 April 2027. Nothing changes for August 2026 recipients: same R370, same monthly means test, same portal. But the department has now published the draft entry criteria for the successor grant and public comment is open until 15 September 2026.
The draft criteria retain the R628 means test threshold but add a proposed employment declaration and a new NSFAS overlap rule. Existing SRD recipients do not need to reapply for the Livelihoods Grant; the migration will run in the background from April 2027 based on the last three months of SRD approval history. If Your August Payment Is Late
The most common August late-payment causes are: a permanent grant that failed AVS after a June or July banking detail change, an e-Life certification flag on Older Persons or Disability files, an unresolved Q2 review flag from July, or a delayed SRD batch on the R370 cycle.
Give the pay channel three business days after the payment date shown on the portal before escalating. Most genuine late payments resolve inside that window. If it goes past three days, contact SASSA using the channels below.

Looking Ahead to September 2026
September 2026 follows the same shifted anchor. Per the SASSA annual calendar, permanent grants will land Wednesday 2 September (Older Persons), Thursday 3 September (Disability), and Friday 4 September (Children's and other grants), with the fourth review-day payment on Monday 8 September. Heritage Day on Thursday 24 September falls right inside the SRD R370 batch window, so expect a one-day slide for any SRD payment queued for release on 24 September. The batch window is expected to run 23 September to 30 September to absorb the holiday.
September is also the final month before Postbank enforcement begins. If you have not swapped your Gold Card by 30 September, your 1 October withdrawal will fail at the ATM. Do not leave it to the last week.
