SASSA SRD Payment Not Received: Approved but No Money
The portal says Approved, the month has ended, and still no R370 has landed. This is one of the most stressful SRD situations because everything looks fine on paper. The good news is that most missing SRD payments are caused by a small number of specific issues: a slow AVS check, an inactive Postbank slot, a CashSend voucher that was never claimed, or a delayed retail run. This guide walks through every reason your money has not arrived, the exact number of days you should wait before acting, and how to escalate cleanly to the right SASSA channel without cancelling the payment by accident. Before you do anything else, confirm the current outcome on your SASSA status check.

Approved Does Not Mean Paid
An Approved status on the SRD portal means SASSA has finished the eligibility review for that month and cleared you to receive R370. It is not the same as the money actually being released. Between Approved and paid there are still three internal steps:
- Payment file compiled. SASSA batches all Approved files into a payment instruction sent to the National Treasury payment system.
- AVS re-check. A last account verification runs against your chosen pay channel to confirm the account is still live and matches your ID.
- Pay-run release. The Treasury releases the funds to the pay channel (Postbank, bank, retail partner, CashSend gateway), which then delivers to you.
The gap between Approved and money-in-hand can stretch to 10 working days in a normal month and up to 21 days during high-volume months.
Wait First, Panic Later: The Timing Rules
| Pay channel | Normal window from Approved | When to escalate |
|---|---|---|
| Bank EFT (any SA bank) | 3 to 7 business days after payment date shown on portal | Day 10 with no deposit |
| Postbank direct deposit | 2 to 5 business days after payment date shown on portal | Day 7 with no deposit |
| CashSend (any bank) | Same day the payment date is set | Day 3 with no SMS voucher |
| Retail store collection (Pick n Pay, Shoprite, Boxer, Checkers) | Payment window opens on the date shown for up to 30 days | Day 30 with no successful pull |
| Post Office (legacy card) | 3 to 10 business days after payment date | Day 14 with no deposit |
10 Reasons Your SRD Payment Has Not Arrived
- You are in the wait window. Most "missing" payments simply have not been released yet. Confirm today's date is past the escalation day in the table above.
- AVS failed after Approval. The account you provided did not pass the last verification. See the bank verification failed guide for the fix.
- Banking details changed in the last 7 days. SASSA enforces a 7-day cooling-off before releasing funds to a new account. Follow the banking details update guide to see when your first payment resumes.
- Retail voucher expired without collection. Retail collection windows lapse after 30 days. If missed, the money is returned to Treasury and re-released the following pay cycle.
- CashSend SMS never arrived or was deleted. Vouchers can be re-issued once by SASSA if you have not withdrawn within 14 days.
- Bank rejected the credit. Dormant accounts, joint accounts with mismatched ID, and closed accounts bounce the payment back within 48 hours. SASSA reverses to Treasury; you need to update banking details.
- Duplicate applications on your ID. Both files pause until fraud team resolves. Payments do not release during this period.
- SASSA payment file was delayed. During system upgrades or public holidays the release itself is pushed by a few working days across the whole cohort.
- Postbank slot overloaded. Postbank runs weekly batches. If your batch missed the cut-off, it rolls to next week.
- Status flipped back to Pending overnight. Fresh review data (bank inflow crossing R628, SARS/UIF update) can revoke Approval mid-cycle. Re-check status; if it is now Pending or Declined, see monthly reconfirmation.
Missing Payment by Pay Channel
Bank EFT
Most reliable channel but subject to AVS. Check bank app for pending EFTs before assuming failure. If the account is joint or dormant, the credit is bounced back to SASSA within 48 hours.
Fix: Confirm your account is active, single-holder, and in your name. Update details if not.
Postbank
Fewer AVS issues but batch-based release. If you missed the current batch you wait for the next weekly run.
Fix: Nothing to do; check again 5 to 7 business days after the payment date on your portal.
CashSend
SMS voucher with a code and a 14-day withdrawal window. If the SMS never arrives, your cellphone number on file is likely wrong or you were on another network with poor delivery.
Fix: Update cellphone (phone change guide). Request voucher re-issue via 0800 60 10 11.
Retail (PnP, Shoprite, Boxer, Checkers)
Money is not paid to you until you walk into the store and present your ID plus the SMS PIN. If you never collect, the payment sits open for 30 days then is returned.
Fix: Collect within the 30-day window. Bring green ID plus the exact PIN. Only one attempt per PIN, so double-check before entering.
"Payment Date Not Yet Available" Explained
Some Approved status pages show the outcome but the payment date field is blank or reads Payment date not yet available. This is normal in the first 5 working days after Approval. The payment date only populates once SASSA has locked your file into a specific batch.
If it is still blank on day 10 after Approval, the file is stuck in one of the following states:
- AVS is still pending on your bank account (typical for smaller mutual banks and new accounts).
- Your pay channel is set to "unspecified" because the last banking update did not save; log in and reselect the channel.
- SASSA fraud team has manually flagged the file for review, usually silent for the applicant. Only resolvable by calling 0800 60 10 11.
Action Plan by Day of Month
- Days 1 to 10. Do nothing. Monthly reconfirmation is still running. Do not phone SASSA yet.
- Days 11 to 15. Log in and confirm the status shows Approved and a payment date is populated.
- Days 16 to 24. Confirm your pay channel is correct and your account is active. If bank EFT, watch the bank app; if retail, watch for the PIN SMS; if CashSend, watch for the voucher SMS.
- Day 25 onward. If the payment date on the portal has passed by more than the pay-channel wait window above, phone 0800 60 10 11, quote your reference number (see the reference number guide), and ask for a payment status trace.
- Day 30. If still nothing, request a written escalation via [email protected] or visit a SASSA local office in person with your green ID.
How to Escalate to SASSA (The Right Way)
Call centre
Dial 0800 60 10 11 (toll free). Ask for "payment status trace". Have your ID, reference number, and payment date screenshot ready. Best times to call are 08:00 to 09:30 or 15:30 to 16:30.
WhatsApp bot
Message "Hi" to 082 046 8553, choose "Payment Query". The bot pulls the last payment result on your file and shows the reason for any hold.
Email escalation
Write to [email protected] with subject "SRD Payment Not Received – [ID] – [Reference]". Attach status screenshot. Reply typically arrives within 5 working days.
In branch
Visit any SASSA local office with your green ID or Smart ID. The agent can pull payment logs on the spot and re-issue vouchers where applicable.
Unclaimed and Reversed Payments
If a payment is released but not collected (retail PIN not used, CashSend voucher not withdrawn, or the bank bounced the deposit), SASSA reclaims the R370 into the "unclaimed" pool after the pay-channel window closes.
- Retail unclaimed: reversed after 30 days from payment release.
- CashSend unexpired vouchers: reversed after 14 days.
- Bank rejects: reversed within 48 hours of the bounce.
Unclaimed money is not automatically re-released. You must phone 0800 60 10 11, request re-issue, and confirm the correct pay channel. Re-issued payments land in the next weekly batch, typically within 7 to 10 working days.
Back-Pay for Missed Months
If you missed one or more months because of an incorrect Declined outcome that you later overturned on appeal, SASSA owes you the missed R370 for each successful month. This back-pay is released as a lump-sum credit to your registered pay channel within 30 days of the appeal outcome.
Back-pay is capped at the last 3 months in most cases. If your appeal covers older months you need to raise this specifically with the SASSA regional office; oldest back-pay is generally settled up to 24 months, not further.
Frequently Asked Questions
My status is Approved but there is no payment date. Is something wrong?
Not necessarily. Payment dates typically populate 5 to 10 working days after Approval. If day 10 has passed and it is still blank, log in and check that a pay channel is selected on your file. If it is, phone 0800 60 10 11 for a payment trace.
Can I change my pay channel to speed up a stuck payment?
You can change the pay channel, but changing it will not release the currently stuck payment. It will only affect future months, and there is a 7-day cooling-off before the new channel takes effect. If the current payment is stuck, fix the cause on the existing channel rather than switching.
Why is my Postbank payment taking longer than my friend's bank payment?
Postbank releases in weekly batches while private banks receive EFTs daily. Missing a Postbank batch by one day pushes you into the next week's release. This is normal and not a sign of a problem.
Do public holidays delay my SRD payment?
Yes. Any working day lost to a public holiday shifts the release by one working day. December in particular sees a compressed schedule with all December and early January payments released together in mid-December.
My payment was reversed by the bank. Where is my R370?
Back with SASSA in the unclaimed pool. Phone 0800 60 10 11 to request re-issue after you have updated the banking details. It re-releases in the next weekly batch.
Can SASSA lose my payment permanently?
No. R370 payments do not expire while your SRD file is active. Even reversed and unclaimed amounts stay owed to you and can be re-issued on request. If a payment appears truly missing after full escalation, ask for a written payment history report at a SASSA local office.
Should I check my status again while waiting for payment?
Yes, once. If the status is still Approved and a payment date is visible, no action is needed. If it has silently flipped to Pending or Declined mid-cycle, that is your answer. Do not check compulsively; the status only updates on SASSA's cycle.
