SASSA Payment Dates 2026/27: SRD & All Grants

SASSA pays grants on a rolling three-day schedule at the start of each month for its older grants, and in a batched window at the end of the month for the SRD R370. Knowing exactly which day your grant lands lets you plan collection and avoid the payday queues. This page keeps the confirmed 2026/27 schedule, the SRD monthly windows, and the reasons a date can shift, all in one place.

Quick Summary

SRD R370

Paid in a batched window in the final week of each month, roughly the 24th to the last day. Bank EFT lands within the same window. CashSend and retail pickups follow the same batches.

Older Person's

Paid on the first business day of each month. Highest-priority pay run to reduce branch queues for elderly beneficiaries.

Disability & War Vet

Paid on the second business day of each month, immediately after Older Person's.

CSG, Foster, Care Dependency, Grant-in-Aid

Paid on the third business day of each month.

SRD R370 Payment Windows (2026/27)

The SRD is released in batches during the final week of each month, once the monthly re-verification is complete. Your payment lands somewhere in the window; the exact day depends on the batch you fall into and your pay channel.

Windows, not fixed days. Unlike the older grants which pay on a fixed pay day, the SRD is deliberately batched to spread queue load at ATMs and retailers. Do not panic if your R370 arrives on the 27th when your friend got it on the 24th; you are both inside the same window.

Other Grant Payment Dates (2026/27)

The older SASSA grants are paid on a fixed three-day schedule at the start of each calendar month.

How SASSA Orders Payments

The three-day pay cycle exists to prevent stampedes at ATMs and retailer tills. Ordering is deliberate:

  1. Day 1: Older Person's. Elderly beneficiaries typically face the longest queues; paying them first lets them collect before the crowds arrive.
  2. Day 2: Disability and War Vet. Also prioritised for accessibility reasons.
  3. Day 3: CSG, Foster, Care Dependency, Grant-in-Aid. The largest group by count, paid last so branches have processed the older grants first.
  4. End-of-month: SRD R370 batches. Paid after monthly re-verification is complete, spread across a 5-8 day window to avoid saturating channels.

Within each day, payments land at different times depending on your pay channel: EFTs process overnight and are usually visible by 08:00, CashSend and eWallet arrive as SMS OTPs any time from 06:00, and retailers open their SASSA payout tills from store opening time.

Why Dates Shift

Weekends

If the scheduled day falls on a Saturday or Sunday, payment shifts to the Friday before or the Monday after. SASSA's default is to bring payment forward to Friday.

Public holidays

Same rule as weekends. If the pay day is a public holiday, it moves to the closest business day (usually the day before).

Festive season

December payments are traditionally brought forward by 3-5 days so beneficiaries can prepare for the holidays. Confirmed December 2026 SRD window: 18-22 Dec.

System outages

When the SRD or Postbank system has downtime (as happened in 2023-24), SASSA falls behind on batch processing. Payments then slide into the first days of the next month.

Verification queue

An individual file that took longer to verify (Pending or Referred) waits for the next weekly batch after clearing. It can land in the following month rather than the intended one.

Bank-side delays

Banks release EFTs in their own batches. FNB and Capitec are typically fastest; Standard Bank and Absa can be 4-6 hours slower. Same-day settlement is standard, but not guaranteed.

If Your Payment Is Late

A payment is "late" if it has not landed within 2 business days after the end of the expected window. Before you panic, check these in order:

  1. Run a status check to confirm your status for the month is Approved. If it shows Pending or Declined, you were never queued for payment.
  2. Log in to the SRD portal and confirm the pay channel on file is your current one. If it changed recently, one payment may have gone to the old channel.
  3. Check your bank account for a hidden "SASSA SRD" or "PMT" line item; sometimes the transaction lands with an unusual description.
  4. For CashSend, look for the OTP SMS. It may have been delivered to a full inbox or filtered as spam.
  5. For retail collection, ask the till supervisor to run a manual lookup with your ID before you conclude the payment is missing.
  6. If none of the above, phone SASSA on 0800 60 10 11 with your ID and reference number ready.
Do not update your banking details while chasing a missing payment. A change to the pay channel resets the queue and adds another 14 to 30 days. Wait until the current payment is resolved before making any changes. Read the timing rules in our banking details guide.

Best Time and Place to Collect

Best day to collect

The middle of your window is usually calmest. For older grants that means the second working day (Tuesday if the cycle starts Monday). For SRD, the middle of the batch window (say 27-28 of a 24-30 window).

Best time of day

Between 09:30 and 11:30 for ATMs (after the early rush), and between 14:00 and 16:00 for retailer tills. Avoid the first hour of store opening on pay day.

Best channel

EFT into your own bank account is the least crowded option; no queue at all. CashSend at any ATM is next. Retailer collection is the busiest but also the most convenient for beneficiaries without cards. Detailed comparison in our banking details guide.

Festive Season and Public Holidays

December is the one month where SASSA deliberately breaks the normal schedule. Beneficiaries are paid earlier so they have cash in hand for the holidays. In 2026:

Branch offices close between 24 December and 2 January. If you have a query, resolve it before 22 December or wait until early January.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are these dates official?

The older-grant three-day schedule is confirmed by SASSA press releases at the start of each financial year. The SRD windows are historically accurate and align with SASSA's operational pattern, but SASSA does not always issue a public press release for SRD windows. Use them as a strong guide and confirm on the portal once the current month's status is Approved.

Do all SRD beneficiaries get paid on the same day within the window?

No. SASSA processes payment in batches of tens of thousands at a time to protect ATM and retailer capacity. Two applicants Approved for the same month can be paid three or four days apart, both correctly.

Will my payment be later if I only got Approved late in the month?

Yes. If your file only cleared verification on the 22nd, you land in the last batch of the window and may only be paid on the last day. Applications approved after the last batch of the month slide into the next month.

Does bank switching affect the pay date?

Yes. A recent banking change adds an AVS check that delays payment by up to a week. Read the banking details guide for safe timing.

What if the pay day is my birthday and my ID is being reviewed by Home Affairs?

Turning a new age does not affect SASSA payment. The Home Affairs review does not touch your ID validity for SASSA purposes.

Are grant amounts changing in 2027?

The 2026/27 grant amounts are set until 31 March 2027. Any changes for 2027/28 will be announced in the February 2027 Budget speech.
