About this bursary
The AWS Skills Development Bursary is funded by Amazon Web Services and administered by StudyTrust for the 2027 academic year. It is a full-cost financial award created to support South African students pursuing qualifications in high-demand technology, engineering, commerce, and education fields.
This programme aims to develop technical talent and build future capacity in the South African digital economy. Candidates are evaluated primarily on academic performance and proven financial need.
Students living with disabilities are strongly encouraged to apply. For applicants with disabilities, the bursary covers any undergraduate or postgraduate field of study at a recognised South African university.

Who can apply
You qualify if
- Must be a South African citizen.
- Must be currently in Matric or have completed Matric.
- Must plan to study full-time towards an eligible undergraduate or postgraduate qualification in 2027 at a recognised public university in South Africa.
- Must have obtained a minimum score of 65% for Mathematics in Matric.
- Must have obtained a minimum score of 65% for Physical Science in Matric (where applicable).
- Must have achieved at least 65% for English Home Language or English First Additional Language.
- Tertiary students must maintain a minimum overall academic average of 65%.
- Must demonstrate strong academic performance and leadership potential.
You do not qualify if
- Students studying at unaccredited or private institutions.
- Applicants who do not hold South African citizenship.
- Applicants with a Matric average below 65% in Mathematics, Physical Science, or English.
Documents you need to submit
- Clear head and shoulders passport photograph
- Certified copy of South African ID document
- Grade 11 final report and Matric June results (if currently in Matric)
- Matric certificate (if completed Matric)
- Full academic record and June 2026 examination results (if currently at university)
- Proof of household income (payslips, affidavits, bank statements, or SASSA grant letters)
- Death certificates of parents (if deceased)
- Divorce or child support legal documentation (if applicable)
- Medical proof of disability (if applicable)
