About this bursary
Barberton Mines offers a full bursary for South African tertiary students studying selected engineering and science fields. It covers university registration, tuition, residence, books, electronic equipment, and a regular living allowance.
The scheme aims to build technical skill sets within the gold mining sector. Recipients also get practical vacation work opportunities during university holidays to gain operational experience at the mine.
Barberton Mines operates Fairview, Consort, and Sheba gold mines near Barberton in Mpumalanga as a subsidiary of Pan African Resources PLC.

Who can apply
You qualify if
- Applicants must hold South African citizenship.
- You need to be currently enrolled or accepted at an accredited South African tertiary institution.
- You must be studying towards a degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, mining engineering, or geology.
- An academic average of at least 60% across all subjects in your previous study year is required.
- Candidates must possess strong communication skills alongside proven leadership or supervisory potential.
- You must maintain a clear criminal record.
You do not qualify if
- Students with an average mark below 60% in their previous academic year do not qualify.
- Applicants with a criminal record will be disqualified.
- Non-South African citizens cannot apply.

- Proof of university acceptance or admission on official letterhead (for new first-year students)
- Proof of residence dated within the last three months
