About this bursary

The Canon Collins Tom Queba and Pegasys Scholarship supports postgraduate students in South Africa. Administered by the Canon Collins Trust alongside the Tom Queba Memorial Fund and Pegasys, the award funds Honours and Masters qualifications.

The scholarship targets individuals committed to social and environmental development. It aims to empower future leaders whose work directly benefits marginalized communities across the country.

Applicants can study full-time, part-time, or through distance learning at any public South African university. Recipients must participate in annual conferences and networking events organized by the trust.

Who can apply

You qualify if

  • You must be a South African national classified as black African or coloured.
  • You must reside within South Africa.
  • You must be under 34 years of age when your course starts.
  • You must hold a completed undergraduate degree with at least an upper second class pass, or be graduating in 2026.
  • You must be enrolled or applying for an Honours or Masters degree at a South African university.
  • Your proposed study must focus on social or environmental progress that improves conditions for South Africa's poorest communities.
  • You must commit to participating in annual conferences and events organized by the trust.

You do not qualify if

  • Applicants older than 34 years at the start of their course.
  • Non-South African citizens or residents.
  • Undergraduate students.
  • Studies outside of the specified social change fields.

Documents you need to submit

  • Copy of South African ID, birth certificate, passport, or driver's license
  • Proof of refugee status if applicable
  • Degree certificates if already completed
  • Official certified academic record or transcript
  • Two recent payslips if currently employed

Keep two reference letters ready as shortlisted applicants will need to submit them quickly.

How you are selected
