About this bursary
Canon Collins Trust and the University of London offer postgraduate law scholarships for the 2027 academic intake. Funding covers full tuition fees and exam entry costs for online study programmes.
The initiative is tailored for working professionals who wish to strengthen their legal expertise to advance social justice across Southern Africa. Candidates can study towards a Postgraduate Certificate, Postgraduate Diploma, or Master of Laws.
Recipients must dedicate at least 10 hours each week to their coursework and finish their qualification within one to five years.

Who can apply
You qualify if
- Must be a citizen, resident, or recognized refugee in South Africa, Malawi, Zambia, or Zimbabwe.
- Must be currently employed on a full-time or part-time basis.
- Must meet the academic entry requirements for the chosen University of London law qualification.
- Must be able to commit a minimum of 10 hours per week to online studies.
- Must show a clear commitment to using legal knowledge to advance social justice in Southern Africa.
You do not qualify if
- Unemployed applicants.
- Applicants unable to commit at least 10 hours weekly to studying.
- Individuals who do not hold citizenship, residency, or refugee status in SA, Malawi, Zambia, or Zimbabwe.
Documents you need to submit
- Identity document, passport, birth certificate, or driver's license
- Academic transcripts (for direct LLM entry)
- Degree certificates or school leaving certificates
- Two reference letters (work and academic, or two employment references)
- Two most recent payslips
Ensure all documents are uploaded as clear, legible copies with your online submission.
How to apply
- 1Review the applicant guidelines on the Canon Collins website.
- 2Check that you satisfy the entry criteria for the University of London law programme.
- 3Complete the online scholarship form on the Canon Collins application portal.
- 4Attach all requested identity, academic, work, and reference documents.
- 5Submit your scholarship application before 15:00 South African time on 30 September 2026.
- 6Apply separately for academic admission to the University of London if shortlisted for the award.
Applications received after 15:00 South African time will not be processed.
