About this bursary
Cape Wools SA, acting through the Wool Industry Bursary Trust, offers financial assistance to South Africans pursuing studies related to sheep and wool. The scheme assists students with fundamental academic costs including tuition fees, course materials, and campus living expenses.
The programme exists to train qualified specialists for the local wool sector, spanning agricultural science, textile technology, and fashion design. It aims to support students who show potential to advance South Africa's wool value chain.
Funding requires a practical commitment. Recipients must complete up to four weeks of holiday work on an active wool farm each year, followed by a post-graduation service contract in the industry.
Obligation
Recipients must work at an approved wool or related industry organization for one year for every year of funding received.

Who can apply
You qualify if
- Applicants must hold South African citizenship and satisfy all entry requirements for their chosen institution.
- You must be studying or planning to study fashion design, textiles, or agriculture with a clear focus on wool and sheep.
- Fashion students in their final year must create a collection containing at least 50% wool.
- Postgraduate researchers at Masters level must center their work on wool and its practical applications.
- Preference goes to applicants at agricultural colleges or tertiary institutes, third-year students or higher (including Honours, Masters, and PhD), and candidates from previously disadvantaged backgrounds.
- Grootfontein Agricultural College applicants must intend to specialize in wool in their third year and maintain a clean disciplinary and academic record.
You do not qualify if
- Non-South African citizens.
- Students whose fashion design collections contain less than 50% wool.
- Applicants whose studies fall outside the wool, textile, or sheep production sectors.
