About this bursary

Capitec Bank offers comprehensive funding for students studying towards undergraduate degrees or honours qualifications in digital technology, data science, and business fields. The scheme covers essential academic expenses, including registration fees, tuition, set prescribed books, university housing, and a monthly meal allowance.

The initiative focuses on building talent for South Africa's banking and tech sectors. It supports driven applicants who plan to start their first, second, or third year of study at accredited public or private South African universities.

Recipients gain practical work readiness preparation to help them enter the corporate space. In return, bursars must work at Capitec after finishing their studies for a time equal to the funding period.

Obligation

Graduates must work at Capitec for a period equal to the number of years funded.

Who can apply

You qualify if

  • You must be a South African citizen entering your first, second, or third year of full-time degree or honours studies in 2027.
  • Your qualification must be at NQF Level 7 or above at a registered tertiary institution.
  • Matriculants need a Bachelor's pass with an overall average of 65% or higher.
  • Current university students must hold a minimum overall average of 65% for recent academic years.
  • Applicants need a strong passion for data, modern technology, and financial services.

You do not qualify if

  • Distance learning students, including those enrolled through UNISA, do not qualify.
  • Studies at TVET colleges, community colleges, or graduate business schools are excluded.
  • Diplomas, higher certificates, advanced diplomas, master's, and doctoral degrees are not supported.
  • Students who need extra years beyond the standard minimum time to finish their degree are not preferred.

Documents you need to submit

  • Certified copy of South African identity document
  • Certified copy of Grade 11 final report and latest Grade 12 mid-year report (if in Matric)
  • Certified copy of Matric certificate (if completed)
  • Official tertiary academic transcripts and full academic record (if currently studying)
  • Official 2026 university fee statement
  • Off-campus lease agreement (if renting private accommodation)
  • Certified ID copies and proof of income for parents or legal guardians
  • Proof of existing bursary or NSFAS contracts, or affidavit if unfunded
  • Signed parent or guardian consent form (if under 18 years old)
  • Doctor's diagnosis letter and EEA1 form (if living with a disability)
