About this bursary

Impala Platinum Refineries offers financial support for pupils finishing matric who plan to pursue degree studies in technical and scientific fields. The award pays for core study costs, including university tuition, accommodation, and required course books.

This programme aims to develop talent for the platinum mining and refining industry. Recipients gain practical skill development and participate in structured vacation work at Implats refineries during the December and January holiday periods.

Learners from schools near Implats operations, particularly in Ward 72 and Eastern Ekurhuleni, receive preference during selection.

Who can apply

You qualify if

  • Applicants must hold South African citizenship and be in Grade 12 when applying.
  • You need an academic score of at least 60% or Level 5 in Grade 11 English, Physical Science, and Mathematics.
  • Candidates must plan to register full-time for an NQF Level 7 degree in one of the approved study areas.
  • Preference is given to students living in Eastern Ekurhuleni, Ward 72, and communities close to Implats facilities.

You do not qualify if

  • Non-South African citizens are not eligible to apply.
  • Learners with Grade 11 results lower than 60% in English, Mathematics, or Physical Science do not qualify.
  • Postgraduate students and current university undergraduates are excluded.
