About this bursary

KPMG provides funding for South African students who want to become Chartered Accountants through SAICA-accredited university qualifications. The scheme features two distinct options: a pure academic merit award and a merit award combined with financial need assistance.

Funding values and award durations are assessed directly by KPMG depending on available budget allocation and continued academic results. Candidates must be able to finish their qualifications within the standard minimum period.

Recipients of this bursary commit to entering into a SAICA learnership training contract at KPMG after completing their tertiary studies.

Obligation

Recipients must complete a SAICA learnership training contract with KPMG upon graduating.

Who can apply

You qualify if

  • You must hold South African citizenship and have finished matric.
  • You must study full-time toward a SAICA-accredited CA(SA) degree at a recognized SAICA-accredited university.
  • You need a strong academic track record and must complete your qualification within the minimum required duration.
  • Matriculants must achieve an A symbol average, excluding Life Orientation.
  • First-year students must attain at least 65% overall average with 70% minimum in Accounting.
  • Second-year tertiary students require a minimum 65% overall average and 65% in Accounting.
  • Third-year students must maintain at least a 60% overall average and 60% in Accounting.
  • Honours or CTA students must achieve a minimum 50% overall average with 55% in Accounting.
  • Applicants seeking the financial need option must present verified proof of household income.

You do not qualify if

  • Non-South African citizens.
  • Students pursuing non-SAICA accredited accounting courses or studying at non-accredited institutions.
  • Applicants who split a single academic year over two years or fail to maintain the minimum course duration.

Documents you need to submit

  • Certified copy of identity document
  • Certified copy of Matric certificate
  • Certified copies of recent academic transcripts or record
  • Official proof of university registration
  • Updated university fee statement
  • Detailed Curriculum Vitae (CV)
  • Parents or guardians proof of income (payslips, pension slips, grant documentation, or unemployment affidavit)
  • Parents or guardians three months recent bank statements
  • Affidavit explaining absent parents or guardians, if applicable
  • Recent utility bill reflecting residential address

Certified copies are required. Financial need applicants must submit complete household income proofs.
