About this bursary

The KwaZulu-Natal Tourism and Film Authority funds local students pursuing qualifications in media, animation, drama, tourism, and interactive digital arts. The funding covers tertiary tuition fees, university accommodation, and a monthly living stipend.

Originally launched to address critical talent shortages in the province's creative economy, the programme assists young people preparing for careers in television, film, and hospitality. All funded studies must take place at recognized public or private tertiary bodies situated inside KwaZulu-Natal.

Disabled candidates and applicants from previously disadvantaged communities receive priority consideration during the review process.

What the bursary covers

Full tuition fee coverage at public universities or capped rates for private tertiary institutions
Accommodation coverage for students who live more than 50km from their campus
Monthly stipend of R1 500 for living expenses

Who can apply

You qualify if

  • Must be a South African citizen residing in KwaZulu-Natal.
  • Must currently be in Matric or already hold a Matric certificate.
  • Must be accepted or enrolled in an approved media, digital skills, or tourism programme.
  • Must study at an accredited public or private tertiary institution located within KwaZulu-Natal.
  • Preference is given to applicants with disabilities and historically disadvantaged individuals.

You do not qualify if

  • Applicants residing outside KwaZulu-Natal or studying at institutions outside the province are not eligible.

Documents you need to submit

  • Certified copy of South African identity document
  • Certified copy of Matric June results for current Grade 12 learners
  • Certified copy of Matric certificate if completed
  • Certified full academic record or transcript if currently studying at tertiary level
  • Official proof of registration or conditional acceptance letter on institutional letterhead
  • Official 2027 fee statement on institutional letterhead
  • Proof of household income not older than three months
  • Doctor's letter confirming disability status if applicable
  • Motivational letter explaining choice of study and academic achievements

Ensure all uploaded documents are clear, certified copies not older than three months.
