About this bursary

Magalies Water runs an annual bursary scheme as part of its youth development initiative. The state-owned water utility awards 14 bursaries each year, funding two students per designated field of study.

The programme is designed to build technical skill within the water and sanitation sector. It focuses on key operational areas including water care, civil engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, biotechnology, chemistry, and information technology.

Applicants must be South African citizens between 18 and 35 years old. Priority is given to female candidates, applicants with disabilities, and individuals from previously disadvantaged backgrounds.

Who can apply

You qualify if

  • You must be a South African citizen aged between 18 and 35 years.
  • You must be currently in matric or have completed matric with an overall average of at least 65%.
  • You must be registered or planning to study full-time towards an approved qualification in 2027.
  • Your studies must be at an accredited, registered South African tertiary institution.
  • Preference is given to female candidates, disabled applicants, and individuals from previously disadvantaged groups.

You do not qualify if

  • Applicants older than 35 years or younger than 18 years.
  • Non-South African citizens.
  • Students achieving less than a 65% overall average in matric.
  • Part-time students or candidates in fields not listed in the notice.

Documents you need to submit

  • Certified copy of your South African identity document
  • Certified copy of your Grade 11 final results and latest matric results, if currently in Grade 12
  • Certified copy of your matric certificate, if finished school
  • Certified copy of your latest academic record on official institution letterhead, if currently studying
  • Proof of acceptance or provisional admission from an accredited Higher Education Institution

All copy documentation must be clearly certified.
