About this bursary

The Metacom Foundation Bursary offers complete financial support to young female students from the Western Cape who are pursuing degrees in technology. It covers tuition, housing, transport, and daily living costs for candidates studying ICT or related disciplines.

Created by the Metacom Foundation non-profit organization, this bursary aims to increase the presence of women in South Africa's tech sector. It combines financial aid with personal guidance to help students complete their tertiary qualifications.

Funding is restricted to four public institutions in the Western Cape: UCT, UWC, CPUT, and Stellenbosch University. Recipients also receive peer support through a dedicated big sister mentorship scheme.

Who can apply

You qualify if

  • You must be a South African citizen between 18 and 27 years old.
  • You must be a female student of colour currently residing in the Western Cape.
  • You need to be in Matric or have already completed Matric with strong academic results.
  • You must be enrolled or planning to enroll for an ICT-related Bachelor's degree at UCT, UWC, CPUT, or Stellenbosch University.
  • You must demonstrate clear financial need alongside academic ambition and potential.

You do not qualify if

  • Male applicants or non-South African citizens do not qualify.
  • Students attending private higher education institutions or universities outside the Western Cape are ineligible.
  • Applicants older than 27 years cannot be considered.

  • Completed Metacom Foundation application form
  • Certified copy of your South African ID document
  • Certified copy of your final Matric results
  • Official tertiary academic transcript on university letterhead, if currently studying
  • Proof of household income such as recent payslips, affidavit, or grant records
  • Optional reference letter
