MINDS Scholarship 2027

About this bursary

The Mandela Institute for Development Studies offers this leadership scholarship for full-time postgraduate studies across Africa. Funding covers tuition fees, university accommodation, a fixed monthly living allowance, health cover, and one return flight ticket for the duration of the qualification.

This initiative aims to develop young leaders who care deeply about continental growth and regional integration. By completing studies in an African nation other than their home country, scholars gain firsthand experience of different cultures while building professional networks across borders.

Funding applies strictly to study at approved host universities located outside the applicant's country of citizenship and country of residence. Specific quota allocations also exist for qualifications in actuarial science, business, and accounting.

You do not qualify if

Applicants intending to study in their country of origin or current residence.
Undergraduate or part-time postgraduate students.
Applicants younger than 18 or older than 45 years of age.
Candidates with an academic mark lower than 70% in recent studies.

Documents you need to submit

Copy of passport bio page
Certified academic transcripts for the last two years of completed study
Official university acceptance letter showing degree title, start date, and course duration
Detailed CV or resume (maximum four single-sided pages)
Valid study visa or official proof of visa application
Two reference letters demonstrating leadership capabilities and integrity (maximum three pages each)

All documents must be uploaded in PDF format and stay under 2MB in file size.

Apply directly to an approved university outside your home country and secure an acceptance letter.

Create an account on the MINDS scholarship application portal.

Complete the application form and answer all leadership questions in detail.

Upload all mandatory PDF supporting documents and submit your application online.

An automated confirmation message and email will be sent within 30 minutes of submission.
