About this bursary

The Old Mutual Accounting Bursary supports South African students pursuing a Chartered Accounting degree at accredited local universities. The scheme pays for full tuition, prescribed books, housing, food allowances, and travel home where applicable.

The funding aims to assist high-performing matriculants and undergraduate students who want to build a career as Chartered Accountants. Old Mutual also provides structured vacation work during university breaks to give students practical exposure to financial management and reporting.

Recipients gain guaranteed entry into the Old Mutual Chartered Accounting Training (OMCAT) Programme upon finishing their degrees. Preference goes to candidates from designated background groups, financial need, or those living with disabilities.

Obligation

Recipients must enter the Old Mutual Chartered Accounting Training (OMCAT) Programme and work for the company upon graduating.

Who can apply

You qualify if

  • Applicants must be South African citizens with a valid identity document.
  • You need to be currently in matric or have finished matric without holding any prior tertiary qualifications.
  • You must study or plan to study towards an undergraduate Accounting Science degree in the Chartered Accounting stream.
  • Your chosen institution must be one of the specified SAICA-accredited universities or Milpark Business School.
  • Matric results require a minimum mark of 70% in pure Mathematics, 60% in English Home Language or 70% in English First Additional Language, and 70% across all other subjects.
  • Candidates must commit to joining the OMCAT training scheme after completing their degree.

You do not qualify if

  • Students holding any existing post-matric or tertiary qualification cannot apply.
  • Applicants who take Mathematical Literacy in matric do not qualify.
  • Non-South African citizens are ineligible for this bursary.

  • Grade 11 final results and latest Grade 12 results if currently in matric
  • Matric certificate if already completed
  • Proof of university application or acceptance
  • Official academic transcript if currently studying at university
  • NBT results statement if available
  • Completed Old Mutual Bursary motivation form
  • One-page Curriculum Vitae
