About this bursary
The Old Mutual Imfundo Trust Scholarship helps South African students fund their tertiary education. Managed through StudyTrust, the programme offers financial support for undergraduate degrees in commercial, technical, and quantitative fields, as well as postgraduate studies in climate science.
Old Mutual Investment Group launched this initiative to widen access to qualifications linked to the financial and investment industry. It aims to develop skilled professionals while assisting dedicated scholars who face financial constraints.
Special consideration is given to applicants coming from rural areas or townships, helping create broader participation in specialized sectors.

Who can apply
You qualify if
- Applicants must hold South African citizenship and intend to study full-time at an accredited local university.
- Candidates must be currently in matric, have finished matric, or be entering their first or second year of undergraduate study in 2027.
- Postgraduate applicants are accepted exclusively for climate studies.
- Matriculants need a minimum June mid-year average of 70%, with at least 70% in Mathematics and 70% in English FAL or 60% in English HL.
- Current tertiary students must maintain a minimum overall academic average of 65% in their recent mid-year examinations.
- Priority is given to individuals raised in township or rural communities.
You do not qualify if
- Non-South African citizens are ineligible to apply.
- Undergraduate students entering their third or fourth year of study are not eligible.
- Part-time students or candidates attending unaccredited private institutions will not be considered.
Documents you need to submit
- Clear passport-style headshot photograph
- Certified copy of South African identity document
- Grade 11 final report and Matric June results for current matriculants
- Official Matric certificate if school has been completed
- Latest academic transcript and mid-year university results for tertiary applicants
- Proof of household income including recent payslips, affidavits, or SASSA grant letters
- Death certificates if parents are deceased
- Divorce order or official maintenance affidavit if parents are separated
