About this bursary

The South African Reserve Bank provides funding for students who wish to pursue higher qualifications in Fine Arts. This scholarship offers comprehensive financial support for the 2027 academic year.

This initiative aims to empower creative South Africans who demonstrate technical capability along with financial need. It covers postgraduate qualifications as well as final year undergraduate studies.

Applicants need to maintain a strong academic record and submit samples of recent artwork. Shortlisted candidates undergo an interview before final selection.

Who can apply

You qualify if

  • You must hold South African citizenship.
  • Candidates must be under 35 years old.
  • You must be enrolled for an eligible Fine Arts qualification in 2027.
  • An overall minimum academic mark of 65 percent achieved in 2026 is necessary.
  • Applicants require proof of acceptance at a recognized South African university.
  • You must demonstrate verified financial need.

You do not qualify if

  • Applicants who are 35 years or older.
  • Non-South African citizens.
  • Students with an academic average below 65 percent in 2026.
  • Candidates studying qualifications outside the Fine Arts domain.

Documents you need to submit

  • Certified copy of identity document
  • Academic transcripts for 2025 and 2026 printed on institution letterhead
  • Proof of university acceptance featuring a student number
  • Images showing 6 to 8 pieces of artwork created in 2025 and 2026
  • Artist statement under 300 words detailing your work, background, and financial need

How you are selected
