About this bursary
The Transport Education Training Authority partners with World Maritime University in Sweden to offer full scholarship funding. This award covers postgraduate studies toward a Master of Science in Maritime Affairs in Malmo for the 2026/2027 academic cycle.
The opportunity targets working professionals in the South African transport and ocean sectors. It aims to develop advanced skills and capacity within the maritime industry while giving recipients international academic exposure.
Female candidates and middle managers receive preference during selection. Applicants must hold existing employment in the local maritime sector and secure formal approval from their employers to return to work after completing the course.
Obligation
Recipients must return to their employment in South Africa after completing the degree.

Who can apply
You qualify if
- You must be a citizen of South Africa.
- You must hold academic acceptance to the World Maritime University.
- You must be currently employed in the South African maritime sector.
- You need at least 12 months of service with your current employer.
- You need a minimum of three years total experience in the South African maritime industry.
- Your current employer must provide written permission for you to attend and return to work afterwards.
You do not qualify if
- Unemployed individuals cannot apply.
- Applicants with less than three years of maritime sector experience are ineligible.
- Foreign nationals are not eligible.
Documents you need to submit
- Completed WMU admission application with matric certificate
- Certified copy of South African ID document
- Certified copy of valid passport or passport application
- Completed TETA Motivational Statement
- Letter of support from current employer confirming leave approval
- Completed Application for Financial Support form
- Signed Terms and Conditions of TETA funding
Documents not attached to the online portal must be emailed directly to WMU.
How to apply

- 2Download the required TETA motivational statement and financial support document.
- 3Obtain a formal letter of support from your employer.
- 4Complete the scholarship application through the WMU online portal before 22 April 2026.
- 5Email any outstanding supporting files to [email protected].
