About this bursary
The Western Cape Provincial Treasury provides bursary funding to support students living in the Western Cape who are pursuing qualifications in public financial management, economics, data science, and related disciplines. Established in 2008, the scheme aims to address skills shortages in government departments and public institutions.
Targeted at youth aged between 17 and 35 years, this financial assistance is designed for high-performing students who want to contribute to local community growth and provincial economic development. Applicants must demonstrate academic merit by maintaining a minimum average of 65%.

Who can apply
You qualify if
- You must be a South African citizen.
- You must reside permanently within the Western Cape province.
- You must be between 17 and 35 years old at the time of application.
- You must currently be in Matric or have completed your Matric certificate.
- You must be enrolled or planning to enroll full-time at an accredited South African tertiary institution.
- You must have obtained a minimum overall average of 65% in your latest year of study.
- Postgraduate applicants must hold a Bachelor degree in one of the approved target fields.
- Students with disabilities are encouraged to submit applications.
You do not qualify if
- Applicants who already hold financial funding or another active bursary.
- Non-South African citizens or residents living outside the Western Cape.
- Students who obtained an overall academic average below 65%.
Documents you need to submit
- Certified copy of your South African ID document
- Certified copy of your Matric certificate, if completed
- Certified copy of your Grade 11 final results and Matric June results, if currently in Matric
- Full academic transcript on official university letterhead, if currently studying
- Proof of university acceptance or registration on official institution letterhead
- Certified copy of your Bachelor degree certificate, if applying for postgraduate funding
- Certified copies of parents or guardians ID documents
- Proof of household income such as recent payslips, grant documents, or sworn affidavits
- Motivational letter explaining why you require and deserve financial support
- Proof of residential address within the Western Cape
