How to use the SRD status form above

The SASSA SRD status form at the top of this page submits your ID and cellphone number to the official SASSA SRD service (srd.sassa.gov.za) and displays the result it returns. grantZA is an independent publisher, not SASSA. Follow the four steps below.

  1. Scroll up to the SASSA Status Check form at the top of this page.
  2. Enter your 13-digit South African ID number in the ID Number field.
  3. Enter the cellphone number registered against your SRD application.
  4. Click Check Status. The result returns in a few seconds.

Your result will show one of eight statuses (Approved, Pending, Declined, and so on). What each one means and what to do next is covered in What Your Status Result Actually Means further down this page.

SRD R370 August 2026 payments confirmed for 24–26 August

SASSA has confirmed that Social Relief of Distress payments for August 2026 will be processed across three days from Monday 24 to Wednesday 26 August. Beneficiaries who cleared the August re-verification will see a pay date on their status page. If no date appears by 26 August, allow a further 24 to 72 hours for bank-side settlement before escalating through the toll-free helpline.

Ways to Check Your SRD R370 Status

Eight official channels, all reading from the same SASSA database. Pick whichever suits your phone and data situation. The portal is the primary route, the rest exist for applicants without smartphones, data, or a nearby branch.

srd.sassa.gov.za portal

Open srd.sassa.gov.za, enter your 13-digit ID and the cellphone number on your SRD file, tap Submit. Result returns in seconds and shows the current month plus the last three. Free with any Wi-Fi or data connection, available 24/7.

General SASSA USSD

Dial *120*69277# or *120*3210#. No smartphone, no airtime balance, no data needed. Works on Vodacom, MTN, Cell C and Telkom feature phones.

SRD-only USSD

Dial *134*7737#. Dedicated SRD line, skips the general SASSA menu. Free on every network, works on feature phones, no airtime needed.

WhatsApp bot

Save 082 046 8553, message the word Status. The bot asks for your ID and phone and replies with the outcome. Runs around the clock.

Automatic SMS updates

SASSA sends outcome and payment-day SMS to the number on your SRD file. Keep that SIM active. Never reply with your ID, PIN or OTP.

Moya App (reverse-billed)

Download Moya from the Google Play Store. Reverse-billed on major SA networks, so the SASSA SRD tile opens without airtime. Android only.

Toll-free helpline

Call 0800 60 10 11, pick the SRD option. Free from all major networks, Monday to Friday 08:00 to 16:00. Use when the portal is stuck or you need a human.

Local SASSA office

Walk in with your green ID and the phone linked to your file. A consultant pulls up your status, fixes identity or banking mismatches, and re-verifies in person.

What Your Status Result Actually Means

SASSA re-runs the eligibility check every month, so a status that read Approved in July can flip to Declined in August without warning. Each card below covers one possible outcome, roughly how common it is, and what to do next. Numbers reflect our own monthly sample of status queries through the portal.

Approved SRD Status

Roughly 4 in 10 checks

Every check has cleared for the month and a payment date has been generated.

Do: Wait for your pay date to appear, then collect via your linked channel Time to payment: 1–7 days from status flip

Pending SRD Status

Roughly 2 in 10 checks

Home Affairs, UIF, or Treasury sweeps are still running against your file.

Do: Wait 7–14 days, common at the start of a month Escalate at: 3 weeks pending, call 0800 60 10 11

Declined SRD Status

Roughly 3 in 10 checks

A rule failed, in 8 out of 10 cases it is a deposit above R628 the sweep flagged as alternative income.

Do: Run the R628 calculator, then submit reconsideration within 30 days Tip: Attach full bank statements for the disputed month to give the reconsideration its best chance

Referred for Review

Uncommon (~2%)

Risk engine flagged your file for manual review, usually a fraud match or duplicate ID.

Do: Call 0800 60 10 11 or visit a branch with your green ID Typical clear time: 2–6 weeks with in-person verification

Bank Details Pending

Frequent (~15%)

The month is Approved but no linked account has passed bank verification yet.

Do: Add or fix a bank account in your own name on the portal Bank verification cycle: 7–14 business days

Identity Verification Failed

Uncommon

Your ID does not match the Home Affairs record, or your cellphone number was recently changed.

Do: Update the phone on the portal, or clear the ID mismatch at Home Affairs first Home Affairs turnaround: 3–10 working days

Application Not Found

Rare

No active SRD record exists against the ID you entered for the current month.

Do: Recheck ID and phone typed. If correct, submit a fresh application First result after reapply: 7–14 days

Payment Failed or Reversed

Frequent (~10%)

SASSA released the R370 but the bank rejected the credit, usually inactive account or name mismatch.

Do: Contact your bank, then re-add banking details on the portal Reprocessing cycle: 7–14 working days

Frequency figures are based on our own aggregated sample of anonymous status queries and are indicative, not official SASSA statistics.

Portal Messages Around the Core Result

The SRD portal shows several extra labels alongside the eight core statuses above. These usually apply to a specific past month rather than the current one.

Approved but No Payment Date
The month is approved but SASSA has not yet released a pay date, usually because bank verification is still running or the monthly means-test batch has not closed.
Confirm your bank details on the portal are correct and in your own name. Wait for the SRD payment window (24-30 of the month). Only escalate if there is still no date three business days after that window closes.
Self Exclusion Response Found
The system detected that you (or an application submitted in your name) declared you do not need the grant, or that your income is above the qualifying threshold.
Log in and review the questions you answered on the SRD portal. If you answered incorrectly, request reconsideration within 30 days. If someone applied using your ID, report identity theft to SASSA and open a case at SAPS.
Period Pending
SASSA is still processing the means test for a specific past month. That month's result is not final yet.
Check again in 7 to 14 days. Do not reapply. Verification for older months often clears once the current month's bank-sweep data is loaded.
Period Approved
A specific month passed all checks and your R370 payment is confirmed for that cycle.
No action needed. Your pay date and channel are shown on the same portal screen. Collect via your linked bank account, cash-send number, or supermarket partner.
Period Declined
Payment for a specific month was rejected, usually because income or bank deposits crossed the R628 threshold or identity data did not match.
Submit a reconsideration for that specific month within 30 days. Other months are unaffected, you do not need to reapply from scratch.
Reapplication Required
Your previous SRD application has lapsed or was cancelled. No active record exists for you in the current cycle.
Submit a fresh application on srd.sassa.gov.za. Have your ID, cellphone number, and bank account details ready.

When to Check Your SRD Status (Portal Load Windows)

The SRD status page shares infrastructure with the SRD application and appeals portals, so response speed swings hard with the day of the month and the time of day. Checking outside the busy windows below usually returns a result in under three seconds. Checking inside them can loop through the "please wait" screen for ten minutes or timeout entirely. There is no advantage to checking twice a day, your status is refreshed by the batch cycle, not by how often you log in.

Window Load Why
Day 1 to 3, 07:00 to 11:00 Heavy New-month reconfirmation wave. Everyone opens the portal to see if the next cycle approved. Expect timeouts.
Day 4 to 15, 09:00 to 21:00 Light The quiet stretch. Best window for first-time applicants, appeals uploads, and banking-detail updates.
Day 16 to 23 Moderate Bank-sweep results start publishing. Portal is usable but slower after 17:00 as people check for the next pay date.
Day 24 to 30, 06:00 to 10:00 Heavy Payment week peak. Beneficiaries check the moment SMS notifications drop. Session errors are common.
Any day, 22:00 to 05:00 Light Overnight window. Fastest possible response. Use when the portal has been unreachable during the day.

Public holidays and the two working days after any grant increase or budget speech push every window one tier heavier. If the portal is stuck, the WhatsApp bot on 082 046 8553 and the *134*7737# USSD line read from the same database and rarely queue.

Which Status Channel Shows the Freshest Result

All eight channels above pull from the same core SASSA database, but the mirrors and message queues in front of that database refresh on different schedules. This is why a friend can see "Approved" on WhatsApp while your USSD dial still says "Pending" for the same month. Use the channel with the shortest lag when a decision matters, especially before travelling to a pay point.

1
srd.sassa.gov.za portal
Reads the live database directly. A status change hits the portal within minutes of the batch job completing. Also the only channel that shows the reason code alongside the outcome.
Live
2
Moya App SASSA tile
Wraps the same portal API in a lighter Android view. Same freshness as the portal, but far kinder on data and works when the browser page is timing out.
Live
3
WhatsApp bot (082 046 8553)
Queries a read-replica that refreshes every few hours. Perfect for a quick check on a phone, but a brand-new decline or approval can take up to 6 hours to show here.
~6 h lag
4
USSD lines (*134*7737# and *120*69277#)
Pulls from the same replica as WhatsApp but strips detail down to a short label. Ideal for feature phones with no data, poor for anyone who needs the specific reason for a decline.
~6 h lag
5
Toll-free call centre (0800 60 10 11)
The agent sees the live portal, so the data is fresh, but the queue itself can add 20 to 40 minutes. Best when you need someone to explain a code or trigger a manual re-verification.
Live + queue
6
Automatic SMS notifications
Sent only when the batch cycle closes for the month, not when your individual status changes. Delivery can lag by 24 to 48 hours behind the portal. Treat SMS as confirmation, never as the source of truth.
Up to 48 h

Rule of thumb before a pay-point visit: the portal beats every other channel. If two channels disagree, trust the portal. If the portal is unreachable, wait for the overnight window rather than acting on a stale WhatsApp or USSD reply.

Solve Common SRD R370 Status Problems

The 2026 verification process is more rigorous than previous years. Here are the most common issues and exactly how to fix each one.

Pending for 3+ Weeks
Home Affairs verification, UIF clearance, or credit bureau checks are delayed.
Update your details on the portal to trigger a fresh verification cycle. If still pending after 4 weeks, call 0800 60 10 11 or visit a SASSA office.
Declined: Income Detected
Bank deposits totalling R628+ were flagged. Even family transfers count.
Request reconsideration within 30 days via the SRD portal. Attach 3 months of bank statements and affidavits explaining flagged deposits. See our full appeal guide for step-by-step instructions.
Bank Details Rejected
Account is inactive, name does not match ID, or account belongs to someone else.
Only use a savings or cheque account in your own name. See the bank verification failed guide for every reject reason, and the banking details update guide for safe timing and channel choice.
Identity Verification Failed
Your details do not match Home Affairs records. Name change, ID error, or recently updated documents.
Correct your information directly with Home Affairs first, then resubmit to SASSA. Full walk-through in our identity verification guide.
Approved but No Payment
Status shows approved but no payment date or money has not arrived.
Wait until the SRD payment window (24th-30th). Banks take 2-3 business days to process. If still nothing after 3 days past your date, call 0800 60 10 11.
Payment Failed / Reversed
Money was sent but bounced back. Bank account may be closed, frozen, or name does not match.
Contact your bank to check for reversed transactions. Update your banking details on the SRD portal. Reprocessing takes 7-14 working days.

R628 Means Test Calculator

Every month SASSA sweeps the bank accounts linked to your ID and applies the R628 income rule. Add each credit that hits your accounts in a typical month below and the tool will tell you where you stand before you apply or appeal.

Monthly total R0
Add your deposits above to check
The calculator runs entirely in your browser. No values are sent anywhere.

The Child Support Grant does not count against SRD. Everything else above, whether it is a family transfer, a UIF payout, or a small loan, is treated as alternative income by the automated sweep.

Appeal a Declined SRD Status

Declined in error? You have 30 days from the decline date to submit a reconsideration, then 90 days beyond that for a formal ITSAA appeal if the reconsideration also fails. No lawyer required, no filing fee. A successful outcome pays out back-dated R370 for every disputed month. Full walkthrough in the SRD appeal guide.

Submit Your Dispute (Within 30 Days)
Visit srd.sassa.gov.za/appeals or srd.dsd.gov.za/appeals. Enter your ID, cellphone number, and the specific declined month. Provide a clear written reason explaining why the system's rejection was incorrect.
Gather Supporting Documents
Three months of certified bank statements, an affidavit from your local police station confirming unemployment, and a retrenchment letter if recently laid off. If your account had large temporary deposits (e.g., family emergency transfers), explain each one in your motivation letter.
Tribunal Review (Up to 90 Days)
The ITSAA will review your case. Check the tribunal portal regularly using your reference number. Human reviewers assess the evidence you provided. You will receive an SMS notification once your appeal has been decided.
Final Outcome
If successful, you receive back-pay for the disputed month(s). If unsuccessful, you may reapply in the next cycle if your circumstances change. There is no further appeal after the ITSAA decision for that specific month.

Where to Collect Your SRD R370

Once your status shows Approved with a payment date, the R370 lands in whichever channel is linked to your file. You do not have to collect on the exact date, funds sit against your profile until you withdraw. Three consecutive uncollected months triggers a reversal.

Now
August SRD batches begin 24 August, straggler window runs to 31 August

Monthly re-verification has closed. Portal starts showing per-applicant pay dates from Monday 24 August. If your status page still says Pending on 27 August, run a fresh check first; the sweep occasionally re-runs late-cleared files on the 26th and 27th. Do not reapply, that resets the verification clock and pushes you into next month's batch.

Funding
SRD funded through 31 March 2027, redesign expected 2027/28

R36.4 billion has been allocated to keep SRD R370 payments running through the current financial year. Treasury has provisionally set aside further funding for the redesigned livelihoods grant expected to replace SRD in 2027/28. The R370 amount stays as-is until then.

Never share your OTP or PIN. SASSA never asks for banking PINs, OTPs, or "unlock" payments. Only trust sassa.gov.za URLs. If you stop receiving OTPs, someone may have swapped your SIM, call 0800 60 10 11 to freeze your profile.
There is no R700 SRD grant. Posts about "increased" R700 amounts or foreign-national eligibility are scams. The SRD grant is R370. Apply only at srd.sassa.gov.za.

Updating Your Banking Details Safely

Log into the SRD portal and select "Update banking details". The system sends an OTP to your registered phone. Enter the OTP to receive a secure link via SMS. Only use a standard savings or everyday cheque account in your own name. The ID number linked to the bank account must match your SASSA profile exactly. Using someone else's account will result in instant rejection. After updating, bank verification takes 7 to 14 business days before it reflects on your dashboard.

Frequently Asked Questions

The SRD grant remains at R370 per month throughout the 2026/27 financial year. It did not increase alongside other grants. R36.4 billion has been allocated to extend payments until 31 March 2027. President Ramaphosa announced it will be redesigned into a livelihoods grant linked to skills development. Details will be announced at the MTBPS in October 2026.
SRD R370 payments release in batches during the last week of each month, typically between the 24th and 31st. Batches roll out daily once monthly re-verification with Home Affairs and SARS has cleared. Bank settlement adds another 24 to 72 hours after SASSA releases the funds. If your status page shows no pay date by the 27th, run a fresh check. If still nothing by the 28th, call 0800 60 10 11 to escalate.
First request a reconsideration within 30 days of the decline via srd.sassa.gov.za (click "Request Reconsideration" on your status page). If that reconsideration is denied, you have 90 days to file a formal appeal with the Independent Tribunal for Social Assistance Appeals (it is free and you do not need a lawyer). Gather bank statements and affidavits explaining any flagged deposits. Our complete SRD Appeals guide walks through every step with document checklists.
Pending for up to two weeks at the start of a month is normal. If it exceeds three weeks, update your details on the portal to trigger a fresh verification. If that does not work, call 0800 60 10 11 or visit your nearest SASSA office for a manual review. Common causes: typos in your name or ID, expired verification with Home Affairs, UIF not clearing your record, or system maintenance backlogs.
Yes. You can withdraw your grant at Pick n Pay, Boxer, Shoprite, Checkers, or USave using your phone number and ID. You can also receive via direct bank deposit, SASSA Gold Card (ATM), CashSend/E-Wallet, or Post Office. If you miss your collection date, funds remain linked to your profile but will be reversed after three consecutive uncollected months.
This is identity theft. Report it immediately to the SASSA fraud hotline and open a case at your local police station. SASSA's biometric verification (facial recognition) was introduced partly to combat this. You will need to visit a SASSA office in person with your ID to have the fraudulent application removed and your identity verified biometrically.
The current SRD grant is funded until 31 March 2027. Treasury has provisionally allocated R38 billion for 2027/28 and R39 billion for 2028/29. President Ramaphosa indicated it will transition into a permanent programme, but the finer details will be announced at the MTBPS in October 2026. The redesign will tie the grant more closely to livelihoods support, skills development, and work-seeker activities. The word "livelihoods" has replaced "basic income grant" in official language, signalling a more targeted, conditional model.
Yes. Receiving the Child Support Grant does not disqualify you from the SRD R370 grant. However, receiving any other social grant (Old Age, Disability, Foster Care, etc.), UIF benefits, or NSFAS funding will disqualify you from the SRD grant.
No. Once you have an active SRD application, SASSA automatically re-assesses your eligibility each month using data from banks, Home Affairs, UIF, SARS, and credit bureaus. You do not need to reapply monthly. However, you should confirm or update your details every 3 months to ensure they remain current. If your application lapses or is cancelled, you will need to submit a new application through the SRD portal.
For the SRD R370 grant, any income or bank deposits totalling R628 or more per month will disqualify you. This threshold is checked automatically each month through bank account sweeps and credit bureau data. Even temporary transfers from family members are flagged as alternative income by the automated system. Keep your account below this threshold if you want to maintain eligibility.
